[November 15, 2023 – Mentor, OH] – The Lake County Council on Aging is proud to announce that it will be participating in the 2023 Subaru Share the Love Event.  As part of a national partnership with Meals on Wheels America, Subaru of America, Inc. and its retailers will donate a minimum of $300 to charity, like Meals on Wheels, for every new vehicle leased or sold from November 16, 2023, to January 2, 2024. Since the Subaru Share the Love Event began in 2008, Subaru and its participating retailers have donated more than 4.3 million meals and helped provide friendly visits to seniors being served by local Meals on Wheels programs across the country.

Participating Meals on Wheels America members, like Lake County Council on Aging, will receive a share of the donation raised by Subaru dealers in Ohio. Lake County Council on Aging has partnered with Adventure Subaru in Painesville and Ken Ganley Subaru in Wickliffe to raise awareness for the popular year-end sales and giving event, and drive support for Meals on Wheels through The Blizzard Bag Food Drive.

The Annual Blizzard Bag Food Drive will take place from November 16, 2023 through December 15, 2023 Our Subaru partners; Adventure Subaru in Painesville and Ken Ganley Subaru in Wickliffe will host a Blizzard Bag Food Drive box.  Senior Centers throughout Lake County are also the proud hosts of a Blizzard Bag Food Drive collection box along with Council on Aging’s five nutrition sites and the East Ave business office.  Blizzard Bags provide a 2-3 day emergency food supply for seniors in the Meals on Wheels program of Lake County Council on Aging, currently serving nearly 700 seniors every weekday.

“Support from partners like Subaru is critical for our ability to serve an ever increasing number of seniors reaching out for our services, especially with our Meals on Wheels program,” said Joe Tomsick, CEO of the Lake County Council on Aging. “The ‘Share the Love’ campaign helps us continue to provide the nutritional support that vulnerable, isolated Lake County seniors need, especially during the coldest of seasons.”

Bring your donation of a non-perishable food item, single serve and pull-top cans are helpful, to a Share the Love Blizzard Bag food collection box location.  Non-perishable food items; such as, canned tuna or chicken, chili, ravioli, soup, single serving prepared meal, canned vegetable and fruit, packaged macaroni and cheese, crackers with cheese/peanut butter, trail mix, peanut butter, oatmeal, fruit juice or protein bars/drinks are high priority items to provide high nutritional content.
