16th Annual March for Meals is a Month Long Celebration
[March 10, 2021 – Mentor, OH] – The Lake County Council on Aging (LCCoA) announces their 16th Annual March for Meals event will take place virtually the entire month of March, running through March 28, 2021. Funds raised stay local and are used to support five nutrition sites in Lake County serving Meals on Wheels to home bound seniors; as well as the meals provided at senior Lunch Place sites. In 2020 our services increased with volunteer drivers delivering over 194,252 Meals on Wheels, representing a 12% increase; and 41,024 meals were served at Lunch Place sites, representing a 48% increase.
March for Meals is a national campaign, initiated and sponsored by Meals on Wheels America to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community. “At times, a visit from a Meals on Wheels volunteer is the only social interaction homebound seniors receive,” said Joe Tomsick, CEO of the Council on Aging. “Of course the meal served is nutritionally important, but the visit provides a means to check in on those seniors who are socially isolated and may be at risk.”
Individuals can participate in the event as a virtual walker to raise pledges in support of the Lake County Council on Aging’s nutrition programs, and businesses may sponsor the event at various levels.

There are other virtual ways to join in the fun this year and help support this critical community program. All month long, an online basket raffle will take place featuring dozens of valuable raffle prizes, from a $100 Lottery Tree Basket to a Barrel of Spirits. You can purchase raffle tickets online and wait for your name to be called on March 28th. On Friday, March 19th, the Board of Trustees of the Council on Aging is hosting an online virtual Wine Tasting Event, and on Thursday, March 25th you can enjoy a Virtual Family Bingo party with valuable prizes. The month concludes with a virtual walk date of March 28th at the site of your choice.
