May is National Older Americans Month. The Lake County Council on Aging is excited to celebrate Older Americans Month this May by inviting seniors to lunch at our Lunch Place locations in Lake County, Ohio.

Each May, Older Americans Month is celebrated to recognize the important contributions seniors have made to this country and continue to make every day. Older Americans Month is a time to honor the older adults in our lives and an opportunity to raise awareness about the issues that many seniors face, like hunger and isolation.

A great way to celebrate Older American Month is to have lunch with other seniors. Every day, Lake County seniors are enjoying a tasty and nutritious meal at one of the Council on Aging’s four Lunch Place locations, including the Wickliffe Senior Center, Willowick Senior Center, Madison Senior Center and the Extended Housing Building’s Community Room in Painesville. Lunch is by reservation (numbers below) and is served at 11:30 am in all locations, except Madison is served at noon, Monday through Friday.

While enjoying lunch, seniors can learn more about the activities at the senior center, engage in conversation, learn more about the services offered through the Lake County Council on Aging and make new friends. A senior in the Painesville Lunch Place recently remarked, “It’s nice to get out to be around other people my age, socialize and have a healthy meal.”

The Lake County Council on Aging, with the support of Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging and Bob Evans Restaurants, is celebrating National Older Americans month by giving a $10 gift card* for Bob Evans Restaurants to seniors who make a reservation to dine with the agency. Lake County residents who are 60 years or older are welcome. There is no fee for the meal, only a suggested donation of $1.50 given anonymously. Seniors are welcome to continue to dine at the Lunch Place, but there is no obligation after the first dining experience.

Upcoming meals of the day include Chicken Cordon Bleu, Roasted Pork Loin, Meatloaf, Stuffed Cabbage, and Chicken Cacciatore to name a few. Meals include an entrée, a side item, a vegetable, a bread or grain, fruit and milk providing one-third of daily nutritional value. The menu is available at www.lccoa.org or at a nutrition site. The meal of the day is subject to change, but will always be nutritious and delicious. Reservations must be made by Wednesday of the week before at the location where you wish to dine.
