Council on Aging to Mark 50 Years

Gala celebration set for Saturday, November 19th

Since 1972, the Lake County Council on Aging has worked hard to maintain the trust of older adults and their families by providing vital services that support their well-being and independence.  It is with great pride that the agency reflects on its 50 years of impact in the community – five decades of  helping seniors maintain independence in their own homes for as long as possible.

To mark this golden milestone, the Board of Trustees of the Lake County Council on Aging is extending an invitation to the community to join them for the agency’s 50th Gala Celebration, on Saturday, November 19, 2022.   The gala will be held at The Everly, located at 8200 Norton Parkway in Mentor, from 6pm through 11pm.  “We are very excited to join with many of our community partners, volunteers and supporters to celebrate our half-century of service in the community, giving seniors the tools that can enable them to age in place,” said Joe Tomsick, CEO of the Council on Aging.

This elegant celebration will include a full course dinner, open bar, music for dancing, a silent auction and other opportunities to support the Council on Aging.  Tickets are $150 per person, and reservations are available by calling (440) 205-8111, or clicking the link above for tickets via Eventbrite.  Sponsorships of the event are still available; however, the deadline to make reservations is Friday, November 11th.

During the Gala event, the board will remember Ruth Densmore.  It was Ruth’s efforts in the late 1960’s to identify the concerns and needs of older people in Lake County at that time.  Her commitment to improving services for seniors was supported by Lakeland Community College and led to the founding of the Senior Citizens Council, the predecessor of the Lake County Council on Aging on October 16, 1972.  Each year, the board honors Ruth’s contribution by recognizing outstanding volunteers.

The 2021 and 2022 Ruth Densmore Senior Advocate Award will be presented to two outstanding volunteers, Frank Weglarz and posthumously to former board member Jim Jenkins.  Both of these individuals are well deserving of this recognition for their advocacy of the critical needs of older adults.

“We are proud of our successes and thankful to all those past and present, who have helped us make a difference in Lake County for these fifty years and we look forward to all those exciting new opportunities on the horizon for the next fifty!”
