She also has logged 12,000 hours at Lake East Hospital where she can be found working in the gift shop, emergency room or at the information desk. Her life is an example of the diverse and important service that one individual can provide to her community, making a difference in so many lives with whom she comes in contact.
As a member of the Mentor Senior Center, Ruth is the hostess chairperson, a member of the Mentor Senior Center Advisory Board serving as corresponding secretary for many years, organizer of the Mentor Music Makers group, pinochle secretary and “green thumb” of the Center. Ruth is willing to pitch in to do anything necessary to help out an organization. Wherever she is needed that is where you will find Ruth Gano.
Mrs. Gano is a member of the Mary Martha Circle at Painesville United Methodist Church. The group raises money for the church’s projects with events such as the Fall Festival. Ruth also acts as greeter and works in the kitchen at the church.
Ruth Gano was chosen Mentor Senior Citizen of the Year in 1992. She has received awards from RSVP and Lake County Hospital System for the high number of volunteer hours that she has given to the Lake County community.
