Naomi Spiro

2009

Naomi Spiro, 78, is a model of selfless giving of her time and talents. She has volunteered at LakeWest Hospital for 32 years and has amassed over 20,000 hours in volunteer service. Naomi impacts so many different departments within LakeWest as she provides service at the Information Desk, compiles directories for the Switchboard staff, does or has done registration work for Diabetes Education and public Blood Pressure Screenings. She provides clerical and administrative assistance to the Volunteer department, is a member of the LHS Senior Advisory Board, the LHS Senior Connection group and has been a member and officer for the LHS Volunteer Auxiliary Board. One can actually see and touch the tenderly knitted newborn caps given to infants born at the Hospital, the numerous chart and walker bags she has carefully measured and sewn, the cheery heart-shaped pillows she has crafted for open heart surgery patients to assist in post-operative comfort as well as gaze upon the warming caps for the homeless and the lap robes for the elderly nursing home patients. Naomi was an OhioReads tutor at Edison Elementary for 2 years and a Reading tutor for 5 years. She has donated her hand-knitted baby blankets to the “Touching Little Lives” organization. She also has donated 100 pints of blood to the Red Cross since 1975. In addition to her involvement on the Hospital Auxiliary and Senior Advisory Boards, Naomi is a member of Willoughby Eastlake Library Friends, Willoughby Senior Center, RSVP and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Awards include: 2000 Willoughby Rotary Salt of the Year, RSVP plaque for completion of 23,000 hours in 2008 and numerous LHS Volunteer Service Awards.
