In 1980 Barbara Freed joined the staff of the Willoughby Browning Senior Center. Her interest and knowledge in fitness, fine arts and history gave her the ability to establish many innovative programs for older adults. Her determination and ingenuity made these programs successful.
The programs initiated by Barbara have encouraged older adults to express talents and abilities often neglected during years of employment and child-rearing. She has tried to build a feeling of self-worth and competency in each center member.
Nominator Carolyn Moore says, “Barbara Freed’s service to the senior citizens of Lake county cannot be measured in awards, time or money. Her ability to touch the hearts and needs of the older population is immeasurable”.
