Robert Ryan

2003

Robert Ryan, 75, has worked tirelessly in his volunteer work to benefit others. Working alongside his wife, Faye, the two have been an inseparable team as they have been involved in many activities for local veterans such as parades, funeral ceremonies, Memorial Day services or trips to cheer veterans at the Veterans’ Hospital.

Bob has always been the first to volunteer for a food, Toys for Tots or other types of donation drive. He has stood outside supermarkets to ask for donations, wrapped presents for children’s Christmas parties or delivered turkey dinners on Thanksgiving for the needy in our community. For so many years, Bob and Faye could be found setting the tables, serving the food and doing the clean up work for so many organizations’ Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas parties or charity events.

Bob and Faye were very active with Amvets Post 109, VFW Post 4441 of Mentor-on-the-Lake and American Legion Post 214 of Willoughby. These groups were recipients of thousands of Ryan’s computer generated fund raising tickets. The Ryans made and strung banners and posters on the Post’s walls for countless functions. Newsletters for these organizations were composed, stapled and delivered to the post office.

Bob also coordinated activities, dinners and individual team statistics for Lake County Huffers-n-Puffers senior softball and baseball teams.

Mr. Ryan is a published author of the book, Crimson Imjin, sharing his Korean War experiences.

Bob and Faye Ryan received the Community Service Award from the City of Mentor-on-the-Lake in 1993 for their devotion to the senior citizens, veterans and children of the community where they reside.
