Florence Moore

2009

Florence Moore, 94, lives the motto of The Salvation Army: “Heart to God, Hand to Man.”  Florence has extended her hand to others her entire life. She is still focused on helping the elderly and those less fortunate, as she continues to be a devoted member and part-time employee of The Salvation Army. For over 25 years, Florence has cooked and served countless meals for the homeless, and for the past 50 years, she has cooked and served meals to the elderly. Florence cooks for the senior group that meets once a month at The Salvation Army for a homemade dinner and a program. She enjoys trying out her own recipes on the seniors. For over 30 years, Florence has been very active in the organization’s Women’s Ministries that meets once a week for crafts, parties, fellowship, education and service to others. In addition, Florence visits nursing homes, hospitals and shut-ins on a regular basis. She gives back to those in the community that need it the most. Often, these are the ones who are forgotten. Florence is a nursery Sunday School teacher to young children. She is and has been “grandma” to countless children who have needed a grandmother in their lives. She serves as a role model, not only for her family as well as for her fellow employees, parishioners and all those she has served throughout the years. Florence was awarded The Salvation Army Volunteer of Year in 1994, the Women’s Ministries Leader of the Year in 1995 and the 2006 “Clem Urbanski Award” through the United Way and Harvest for Hunger, showing leadership and commitment to helping others.
