H.E.L.P. (Health Equipment Lending Program)
Senior Health Insurance and Consumer Info
BRIDGE Newspaper--BRIDGE provides relevant information for those 55 and over. Individuals may receive Bridge at home by paying a postage/handling fee of $5.00. (4 issues) or by picking up a copy at locations in Lake County.
Computer Education--Computer Classes are taught on-site at the agency and are open to people 40 and over who also may live outside Lake County. Click here for the schedule.
Congregate Lunches--If you are age 60 or older and are looking for warm companionship and healthy, nutritious food, then join us for lunch. A voluntary donation of $1.25 is accepted.
Council on Aging Foundation--The Council on Aging Foundation exists to ensure that needed services for Lake County seniors will be available in the future, regardless of potential decreases in traditional funding sources. The Foundation's purpose is to help older adults through its support of Council on Aging programs.
Employment Services--Employment Services matches employer and job seeker with free personalized service, available to people 40 and over.
Gatekeeper Program--The Gatekeeper Program trains citizens to locate and identify at-risk elders, particularly those who are isolated, living alone and in need of some type of assistance.
H.E.L.P Program--Health Equipment Lending Program loans walkers, bedside commodes, tub seats and other durable medical equipment and supplies to any Lake County senior.
Homemaker Services--Trained homemakers, employed by the Council on Aging, provide between 1-2 hours of light housekeeping every other week to older adults who can no longer do their own cleaning. Homemaker services are provided on a sliding fee scale basis.
Information & Assistance--Our trained Resource Specialist is available during business hours to answer any questions and provide information about programs, services, organizations or issues related to older adults and caregiving.
In-Home Safety Services--Our Case Managers provide in-home safety checks and make recommendations for safety improvements and repairs. If the senior is unable to access the needed materials and labor, the Council on Aging's contracted handymen will provide both on a sliding fee scale.
Meals on Wheels--Meals on Wheels delivers subsidized hot meals to homebound frail and disabled clients on a donation basis. Volunteer drivers deliver these meals around noontime, Monday thru Friday from Council on Aging nutriton sites in Eastlake, Kirtland, Mentor, Madison, Painesville, and Wickliffe.
Senior Health Insurance & Consumer Info--Trained Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) volunteers resolve Medicare, Medicaid and secondary insurance questions for seniors and their support system. Appointments are available. Provide outreach programs regarding the avoidance of fraud and scams.
Support Services--Licensed social workers provide in-home visits to people 60+ living in Lake County who need assistance. After determining what type of help is needed, clients (and their families) are connected to programs that will meet their needs.
Vial of Life--The Vial of Life provides emergency personnel with crucial medical information at the time of crisis.
Volunteer Opportunities--Volunteer opportunities include: Meals on Wheels Drivers - Deliver hot meals to homebound seniors, Monday thru Friday. Time commitment is about 1 hour per week. Mileage reimbursement is available. Friendly Visitors - Provide socialization to a homebound senior. Grocery Shoppers - Grocery shop for a homebound senior. OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) Volunteers - Trained volunteers provide information and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers. Mileage reimbursement is available for all volunteer positions.
