Peggy Lewis
Anyone
visiting the Mentor Senior Center is bound to be struck by the feeling of joy,
activity and life that permeates throughout the building. Much of that
positive energy can be attributed to a very special person...Peggy Lewis.
Peggy
Lewis is a source of inspiration to both the members and staff of the
center. At the age of 80, she is the director of the Mentor Follies
Dancers. Whenever you hear beautiful music being played, that's where
you'll find Peggy Lewis.
Mrs. Lewis displays an unselfish approach to
service-spreading sweetness and kindness to those around her. She
volunteers for whatever is needed. She doesn't need to be asked and no job
is too small or beneath her. Whether its cleaning the center's kitchen,
delivering Meals on Wheels or reading stories to children, one can count on
Peggy.
As a career teacher, Mrs. Lewis helped organize the Painesville
Township Kindergarten program and in 1975 began coordinating the area's
organization to assimilate Vietnamese families. She taught English to the
first Vietnamese family in Painesville. Even after retiring, she worked
for four years to teach a child with learning disabilities.
Peggy's
warmth, generous spirit and vitality make it easy for people to feel close to
her. An aura of bright music follows her everywhere and we thank Peggy for
sharing it with those around her.
