This volunteer opportunity is perfect for those who enjoy being active and away from a desk. Devote 1 to 2 hours once per week delivering hot lunchtime meals to homebound senior clients - OR – substitute as needed as you are available. Clients appreciate the hot meal and find comfort in knowing someone checks in on them.

Grocery Shoppers

Do you like to shop? Make the difference in the life of one senior on a regular basis by doing their grocery shopping. Our volunteer grocery shoppers go to the store for their assigned client two times per month. Seniors appreciate the help and enjoy the extra socialization that comes with the shopping trips.

Ohio Senior Health Insurance & Information Program (OSHIIP) Volunteers:

Do you have a love of learning? The Medicare system is very complex, ever-changing, and often confusing for many seniors. New OSHIIP volunteers learn the "ins-and-outs" of the Medicare system each spring during a 20-hour training given by an Ohio Department of Insurance trainer at our Mentor office. Trained OSHIIP volunteers counsel Medicare beneficiaries via the telephone and/or in person visits. It's a wonderful education and an invaluable service to our seniors.

Dining Room Servers

Who isn't happy when they see someone coming to serve them up a hot meal with a friendly smile? If you enjoy being the "hostess with the most-ess," you'll enjoy this volunteer opportunity. Volunteer one day per week at a Lake County nutrition site to serve hot lunches to seniors attending our congregate meal program. Your weekday lunch hour will soon include a bunch of new friends!

Friendly Visitors

Would you like to make a regular impact on the life of one senior? Friendly  Visitor volunteers "visit " with their assigned client one hour, twice per month to provide socialization and conversation. Flexible scheduling is ideal for those in the workforce!

Volunteering

Lake County Council on Aging is grateful to serve such an active and service-oriented community! With over 500 volunteers and less than 50 staff, volunteers extend the agency's outreach in serving more elderly residents in need than would otherwise be possible. Our volunteer-to-staff ratio averages 14:1. Just as impressive, approximately 85-90% of our volunteers are active on a weekly or bi-weekly basis!  Your service brightens and stabilizes the lives of our senior clients.

Volunteer opportunities exist for a diverse population. Corporate groups, service organizations, friends, siblings, families, and individuals all have an opportunity to assist our Lake County seniors. A range of volunteer positions are available to accommodate a variety of schedules. Whether you can help during weekdays, weekends, evening or the daytime, there is an option for you!

Most of our volunteer positions allow you to get to know our senior clients. Many of our clients regularly express their appreciation as they know volunteers are helping them through their day. Many of our agency volunteers express how much joy they get from volunteering for our clients.

If you have a few hours a week or month to share, please call Jennifer Pentek, Volunteer Services Manager, at (440) 205-8111 ext. 228 to get started.
