Thousands of Lake County seniors and families have benefited from Luellyn Flowers' professional and volunteer activities.    Professionally, Mrs. Flowers has been a caseworker with the Lake County Council on Aging for the past 18 years.  During that time she has visited literally thousands of seniors in their homes, providing the information, support and services what allow them to remain independent and safe.  Despite a lack of formal higher education, Mrs. Flowers is truly an expert in the field of gerontology and in her knowledge of senior issues and resources.

For over 30 years, Mrs. Flowers has volunteered weekly at the Hope Chest in Painesville.  There she has helped thousands of families retain their dignity by providing them with food, clothing, and vital household items.  She describes her volunteer work there as her "other job" to which she is truly dedicated and of which she is extremely proud.   Through this work, she has been able to help others who find themselves without the means to obtain even the simplest necessities of life.  Mrs. Flowers also volunteers her time at the St. James Meal Program in Painesville.

One of the greatest benefits and most profound impacts of Luellyn's efforts is the positive image of aging she presents every day.  Although she has suffered through deaths of several loved ones, surgery for a life-threatening illness, and other "life blows," she simply never gives up.  She quietly goes about her business, showing by example that senior citizens can be active, contributing members of society despite age, infirmities, or life situation.  Another example Mrs. Flowers sets for others is her commitment to her spiritual faith.  She has been a member of the Painesville United Methodist Church for 52 years.  There she has served as Fellowship Chairman, Membership Chairman of United Methodist Women, and President of Rebecca Circle.
