Stanley Braid

2001

Stanley Braid is truly a well-loved community leader. He rarely says no to someone who needs his help. Among his contributions to Lake County are designing and organizing parade floats for It’s Better in Mentor Days and the Fairport Harbor Mardi Gras. He works with the Fairport Merchant’s Association to decorate for special events, and organizes a trolley during holidays to spread cheer throughout his community. He also volunteers his time to the Fairport Harbor Historical Society and Fairport Senior Center.

Mr. Braid rarely says no to someone who needs help. He transports older adults in his own car to appointments or social functions. He frequently transports four or five people at a time, providing a pleasant afternoon or evening for seniors who otherwise get out very little. He also organizes film festivals at the Mentor Senior Center and Fairport Library.

Mr. Braid’s work ethic and eagerness to help are highly unusual in this day and age. The result of this attitude is that he does things to help in the community that no one else will do. Because of these factors, he was honored as Fairport Harbor’s Community Man of the Year in 1979.

He is the model of a “Good Samaritan”, always willing to pitch in to help someone in need, regardless of the problem.
