Larry G. Ward

2008

Larry G. Ward, 76, has left an indelible mark on the agencies with which he has worked, as he represents the ultimate in volunteer spirit. Larry began volunteering with Hospice of the Western Reserve in 1995. As a clinical volunteer, his activities include dependable caregiver support and friendly patient visits. In addition, he regularly staffs the reception desk at Hospice’s Residential Facility. Larry unselfishly opens his heart, and for example each Christmas morning for the past twelve years, Larry has provided steady and dependable support to the patients at Hospice House. Every Monday morning, one can find Larry pouring over the stacks of volunteer activity logs and entering information into the Hospice database. Larry’s perseverance and dedication have been key to establishing a solid and dependable process for collecting and recording the hours of greater than 1,000 active volunteers.

Larry’s contributions have been key to establishing a system that has received national recognition. Larry is beyond doubt a champion of hospice and an inspiration to all, impacting patient support, administration and fundraising at Hospice of the Western Reserve.

Larry also serves on the Board of “Take the Lead” Foundation, an agency that provides direct services, support and care for people in the sport of purebred dogs who suffer the devastation of life-threatening or terminal illness. He is a Charter Member and past Board Member of the American Maltese Association, an American Kennel and Breed Club for Maltese dogs. Additionally during the time when the Lake Performing Arts Center was operational, Larry volunteered. He and others would organize and facilitate a benefit performance with the proceeds going to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
