Hilbert Collins

1995

Hilbert Collins is a generous man… generous with his time and talents. Whether he is leading a choir, driving a senior citizen to a doctor’s appointment, or presenting a program to nursing home residents, Herbert Collins shares his experiences, skills, and enthusiasm for music with those around him who need it most.

His leadership of various organizations including the Painesville Lions Club, Lake County Messiah Chorus, the Painesville Women’s Chorus, and annual Zion Lutheran Church Musical in Fairport and many more, has stimulated hundreds of people in the community to a greater appreciation of music, as well as providing them with training and opportunities to perform and develop their own musical talents and interests.

He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medial for his efforts in World War II. Hilbert Collins has traveled the United States and Abroad with his musical tours, recording them in photographic travelogues, which he shares and narrates to shut ins, civic and educational groups, and senior citizens. He generously supports the Lions Club activities of providing eye care for needy persons, and frequently transports them for clinical treatment.

Hilbert Collins also supports many local and international charities, particularly if children’s needs are involved. Nominator Frank Lonser states, “His leadership and compassionate service to others exemplifies the lions motto, We Serve”.
