Dotty Dunlap

2008

Dotty Dunlap, 80, is a lady who paces herself yet does not stop as she works to accomplish her goal of maintaining the integrity and charm of Lake County landmarks. Her heart and talent is in making Lake County a better place to live. Dotty does this by reminding us of our history through education in the field of horticulture. As an active OSU Extension Volunteer Master Gardener since 1994, Dotty has presented public talks and classes on various home garden topics. She is personally involved in community organizations, representing the OSU Extension at informational booths at Lakeland?s Senior Day, Holden Arboretum, Lake Metro Parks and other venues. Since 1991, Dotty has been active in the Mooreland Restoration Garden Club. She uses her woodworking skills around the Mooreland mansion and gardens, and is always available to give instruction or advice to novice gardeners and visitors to the garden. Dotty digs, prunes, and plants at the three gardens on the National Registry of Historic Gardens located on the Mooreland Estate. As a Master Gardener, she has participated on the Advisory Board; Program, Publicity and Workshop Committees, as well as co-chair of the Tree Committee.

Dotty has offered “hands-on” instruction and maintenance of the 4-H Peace garden at the Lake County Fairgrounds in 2005, restored the landscape at Mathew House on the Lake Erie College campus in 2004 and currently is involved in the Newell Creek park project in Mentor. Dotty also is active in the renovation of the Lake County Historical Society?s new headquarters.

Dotty was awarded Lake County Master Gardener in 2004 and was First Runner up for the State of Ohio Master Gardener that same year.
