
Grace Jacklitz
Grace
Jacklitz, 70, is a tireless advocate for individuals with developmental
disabilities. Grace has
championed the issues impacting the quality of life for many people by educating
public officials, groups and organizations about mental retardation.
She represents the spirit and commitment that has made Lake County stand
out in the State of Ohio because of its exceptional services to individuals with
developmental disabilities. In the
past ten years, her focus remains to promote and assist persons with
developmental disabilities become active members in the community.
She is involved in setting policies and direction of the Lake County
Board of MR/DD by actively participating on the 169 Board.
Mrs. Jacklitz served as president of this Board from 1994-1995, and in
2002-2003, she acted as vice president. In
1998, Grace chaired the committee known as the “Friends of the Mentally
Retarded,” passing its levy in November. She actively fundraises for the John Jacklitz Memorial Fund
of the Deepwood Foundation whose purpose is dedicated to the beautification of
the Deepwood Campus. Grace works to
create aesthetically pleasing surroundings for the individuals living and
working at the Campus.
Mrs.
Jacklitz has canvassed for other causes including the Lymphoma Society, March of
Dimes and American Heart Society.
Grace
has been recognized both locally and statewide for her years of dedication and
service, including recognition by the Lake County Board of Commissioners in 1996
for ten years of service to the Lake County MR/DD, and in 2000, she received the
Ray Ferguson Award for People with Developmental Disabilities from the Ohio
Association of County Boards of Mental Retardation and Development Disabilities.
